How to Change eBay Listing Quantity
Open the listing in Seller Hub or My eBay, choose Edit, and update the available quantity. Before saving, count only sellable units you can fulfill, then verify the new quantity on the live listing or in your active listings.
This guide covers eBay.com’s current fixed-price and variation listing workflow. Interface labels can move, and eBay may limit which fields can be edited based on listing type or activity; use the options shown in your account.
How do you change quantity on an eBay listing?
Find the listing in Seller Hub or My eBay, select Edit, change the quantity, and save the revision. eBay’s guidance says sellers can update the available quantity on an existing listing; the exact fields available depend on listing type and its purchase history.
- Open Seller Hub or My eBay directly and go to your active listings.
- Find the correct item by title, SKU, or item number, then open Edit.
- For a single-product listing, enter the number of sellable units currently available.
- For a variation listing, open the variation or inventory section and change the quantity for the specific size, color, or other option.
- Save or submit the revision, then reopen the listing and confirm the quantity you intended.
Make the edit on the listing itself rather than creating a duplicate just to reflect a restock. eBay says to keep listing quantities current to avoid overselling; a duplicate can split buyer activity and make stock harder to reconcile.
What quantity should you enter?
Enter the units you can actually sell and ship now, after removing damaged, reserved, or otherwise unavailable stock. A quick inventory calculation is physical count − unavailable units − units reserved elsewhere = quantity to list.
| Inventory check | Example units |
|---|---|
| Sellable units physically counted | 18 |
| Damaged or incomplete | −2 |
| Reserved for another order or channel | −3 |
| Quantity to enter | 13 |
Recount after any orders, returns, damage, or cross-channel sales before increasing the number. For one-of-a-kind used items, list each distinct item separately instead of combining different conditions or contents into one quantity; see our batch listing workflow.
How do you update quantity for an eBay variation?
Change the stock for the exact variation that is available, such as one size and color combination. eBay treats variations as options within one product listing, and its inventory guidance assigns quantity to each variation rather than using one shared count for all options.
Check the label or SKU against the physical item before editing. If you have 4 blue-small shirts and 7 red-medium shirts, enter 4 and 7 for those options respectively; do not put 11 into both rows. If an option is out of stock, confirm its quantity is zero and the listing supports that update before saving.
A regular listing cannot always be converted into a variation listing by editing it. eBay’s Reports guide says an existing listing without variations cannot be revised to include them; check the current listing tools and eBay guidance before rebuilding the listing.
What should you do when the quantity reaches zero?
If you do not expect to restock, let the listing end or end it yourself when appropriate. If you regularly replenish the same product, eBay’s out-of-stock preference can keep an eligible multi-quantity listing active but hidden from search until you raise the quantity again.
To check the preference, open eBay Selling preferences and look under Multi-quantity listings for Listings stay active when you're out of stock. eBay says the setting applies to existing and future bulk listings; when quantity is zero, the listing stays active but hidden, then can reappear after you add stock. Eligibility and labels can vary, so confirm the setting and listing type in your account.
Before relisting an ended variation listing, review every option’s quantity. eBay warns that variations at zero may be relisted with their original quantity, which can create stock you no longer have.
Why can’t you edit an eBay listing’s quantity?
First confirm you opened the correct listing and the right quantity field. Listing type, variation structure, a pending offer, or the actions taken on the listing can change which revision fields eBay makes available.
- Variation listing: Edit the specific option’s stock instead of the parent listing’s shared details.
- Listing is at zero or ended: Check whether the out-of-stock preference kept it active; otherwise review eBay’s relist options and inspect variation quantities before relisting.
- Field is missing or disabled: Open the listing in Seller Hub on the web and consult eBay’s current revise-listing rules for that format and order history.
- You need to create variations: eBay says an existing non-variation listing cannot be revised to include variations in its Reports workflow; use the current listing creation options and verify whether a new listing is required.
eBay’s rules distinguish fixed-price listings from auctions and also list different edits for listings with purchases versus those without them. If the quantity field is unavailable, do not change another field or end the listing until you have checked the applicable revision rules.
How can you verify the quantity change?
After saving, check both the available quantity in Seller Hub and the buyer-facing listing, when it is visible. Confirm the right SKU or variation changed and that the remaining units match your inventory count.
- Reopen the listing or its active-listing row.
- Compare the saved number against your sellable-stock calculation.
- For variations, inspect each affected option separately.
- Check that a zero-stock listing is hidden or ended as expected under your selected preference.
- Update your inventory record so the next order or channel sync starts from the same count.
